Sonya Jensen

Sonya Jensen

Sonya Jensen was born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. As a child she often visited the Prospect Park and Bronx Zoos and became interested in wildlife at a very early age. She became a WCS Member in 1993 and joined the Wildlife Heritage Circle, WCS’s legacy society, in 2001 when she included WCS as a beneficiary in her will. Sonya worked in the Brooklyn police department for more than 25 years and is currently retired. For the last 24 years Sonya has been a frequent attendee of events offered throughout the year in our zoological parks and has learned a great deal about our mission to protect wildlife and the wild places they inhabit. In the past, whenever WCS supporters were asked to help with exhibit clean-ups or to make enrichment items for the Bronx Zoo’s tigers and gorillas, she was quick to volunteer—hoping to give back to the animals who made her so happy during her visits as a child. Supporting wildlife through outright and planned gifts is a top priority in her philanthropy. Sonya continues to live in Brooklyn and enjoys her frequent visits to the Bronx Zoo.
